The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) has released its preseason coaches poll.
Loras College, last season's regular season co-champion and IIAC Tournament winner, received all seven possible first place votes (coaches can't vote for their own team) and totaled 56 points to be the coaches pick to win the title again this year.
Wartburg College received the final first place vote and totaled 49 points to finish second.
BVU, which returns seven starters and 12 letterwinners from last season's team which posted a school record eight wins and totaled a school record 46 goals, totaled 15 points and was picked eighth.
Head coach Tony Tommasi says, “A great recruiting class comes in as we continue to build a
competitive women's soccer program. The IIAC is one of the most competitive conferences in America, and I see that not changing much at all in 2012.”
The Beavers kick-off their season on Friday, August 31, by hosting MacMurray College at 4:00pm as part of the annual BVU Classic. League play begins for the team on September 22 with a match in Dubuque against the Duhawks.
