The Buena Vista men’s tennis team opened its spring schedule on Saturday morning with a convincing 7-2 Iowa Conference victory over Loras College inside of the Lamberti Recreation Center.
BVU swept its way through doubles play, allowing just five total points. The number one team of Adam Gustad and Jason Ehrhardt improved to 2-1 on the year with their 8-1 triumph. Mike Sporer and Kyle Shade teamed up for the first time this season and won the number two bout, 8-3. Keifer Nevius and Cole Renken also teamed up for the first time and captured an 8-1 win.
Loras would take the first two singles matches, but would not get any closer than that. Ehrhardt won 6-4, 6-1 in his number three match to improve his season record to 3-2. Nevius evened his at 2-2 with a 6-1, 6-1 triumph, while Shade and Buzzard each notched their first wins of the year.
After not having topped Loras since 1999, BVU has now beaten the Duhawks in each of the last two campaigns.
The team, now 1-0 in the spring and 2-1 overall will be off until February 18 when it hosts both the University of Dubuque (8:00am) and Morningside College (3:00pm).
