Named the 2013 Iowa College Media Association Multimedia Organization of the Year and awarded 2nd in the nation in 2012-13 for best Online News Website by the Society for Collegiate Journalists, The Tack has been BVU’s student newspaper for over 100 years. Students involved with the award-winning Tack cover the campus community with an online news publication. The staff includes students from a variety of majors who fill all multimedia production roles as reporters, photographers, designers, advertising representatives, editors, and content managers. KBVU, “The EDGE,” 97.5 FM, broadcasts from a state-of-the-art campus digital studio and production facility. The radio station has 3,500 watts of power and can be heard in a 40-mile radius. Dedicated to community outreach, student media leaders at KBVU have organized and promoted music festivals that draw bands from across the country and raise money for charity. Student produced audio stories have won state and national awards and have been praised for NPR-quality professionalism. You can listen to KBVU at edge.bvu.edu.
The University Cable Network (UCN) Studios is BVU’s campus television production facility and cable broadcasting company. UCN Studios serves Storm Lake, as well as nearby Lakeside and Alta. The studio also produces corporate and educational videos. Many productions utilize high-definition cameras.
Studio productions cover sporting, cultural, and news events, offering extensive opportunities for students across campus to get involved in writing, producing, shooting and starring in original programming. Around 25-40 students participate at the UCN Studios each year, filling all production roles on and off camera.
Jamii Claiborne, associate professor of digital media, has been named the 28th recipient of the George Wythe Award, BVU's highest honor for excellence in teaching. She has been a faculty member since 2001. Read more...
