Purpose & Relevance Reimagined
In May 2018, Buena Vista University officially inaugurated our eighteenth President, Dr. Joshua D. Merchant. The events were a celebration of the President’s eminent purpose and his outlook on the novel relevance of the University.
President Merchant’s vast achievements and 20 years of experience in higher education have prepared him to take the helm and address Buena Vista University's opportunities and challenges. His core values are those that reside in the heart of our Storm Lake community, and he looks forward to pairing BVU’s transformational mission with its strong values.

Founded in 1891 by the Presbyterian Church, BVU’s traditional campus on the shores of Storm Lake has more than 45 majors and pre-professional programs, 19 men’s and women’s intercollegiate sports teams, more than 60 student organizations and clubs, and a variety of intramural activities.
