Buena Vista University has announced that Glenn DeStigter of Ankeny has been reelected to the Board of Trustees.

DeStigter is former president, CEO and board chairman of The Weitz Company. He previously served on the BVU Board of Trustees from 2001-2011.

“We are most pleased to welcome Glenn, a loyal supporter, back to the Board of Trustees. He was a distinguished member of our board for years, and we will all benefit from having his wisdom once again,” says BVU President Fred Moore.

DeStigter earned his bachelors degree in construction engineering from Iowa State University and later attended the executive management program at Harvard Business School.

In 1968, DeStigter started at The Weitz Company as a project engineer, and he moved up through the ranks. In 1992, he was named president and CEO, and then in 2001, he was named chairman of the board. He retired from all duties in December of 2013 and is currently retired and doing some consultant work for a general contractor in Chihuahua, Mexico.

“My interest in rejoining the Board came from my previous experience as a trustee,” says DeStigter. “I still believe that BVU is a very vibrant educational institution with a clear vision that is in sync with its mission and its strong leaders and management.”

His wife, Vi, attended Dordt College and is retired from the building department in the city of Ankeny.

DeStigter and his wife have three children: Mitch, who works as in-house council for Mercy Health Systems; Troy, who works with document processing at Meredith Publishing; and Jason, owner and partner at Summit Equity, an equity investment firm.

His hobbies and outside interests include fishing, hiking, golf and traveling.
