A Buena Vista University student organization and an individual from the campus community were recognized with honorable mention awards in June by Iowa Campus Compact (IACC) at its 2014 Engaged Campus Awards event in Des Moines.

IACC was founded in 2003 and is a statewide association of college and university presidents who are committed to fulfilling the public and civic purposes of higher education by educating students for active citizenship and building strong communities, through integrating service-learning and community engagement opportunities into students' academic and co-curricular activities and building strong, mutually beneficial partnerships with communities and community organizations.

BV Buddies Teammates was recognized for an honorable mention for the Partnership Award for their work mentoring youth in the community. They currently have over 60 mentors in the Storm Lake public schools and have served hundreds of youth in the school district by volunteering over 27,000 hours the past 16 years. Zach Ahrens, a senior exercise science and biology major from Carroll, and Sloane Morrow, a junior elementary education major from Fort Dodge, accepted the award on behalf of BV Buddies.

Kevin Coriolan, a BVU graduate from Worthington, Minnesota, was recognized with an honorable mention for the Citizen Award for his service work over the past four years, which included his participation in three AWOL trips (Alternative Week of Offsite Learning), his commitment to BVU’s Student MOVE (Mobilizing Outreach and Volunteer Efforts) program and dedication of over 700 hours to a variety of service projects and his work as a summer volunteer for AmeriCorp Vista.
