Buena Vista University Celebrates Capital Campaign Results

Saturday evening, October 12, Buena Vista University celebrated the culmination of their five-year capital campaign, See Tomorrow: The Campaign for Buena Vista University, the most ambitious fundraising effort in Buena Vista University’s history. The celebration coincided with the 21st William W. Siebens American Heritage Lecture Series events which featured Dr. Condoleezza Rice as the featured speaker.

The campaign raised a total of $30,059,697, which exceeded the $27.5 million goal that was publically announced in 2011.

The funds raised during the Buena Vista University capital campaign will be invested in students, faculty, campus and the annual fund which supports all aspects of student life inside and outside the classroom.

“Because of you, our donors, BVU is stronger, healthier and better positioned to fully carry out its educational mission,” said Norm Nielsen, chair of the Buena Vista University Board of Trustees. “Our students will now have more opportunities to do hands-on research and complete internships, helping them gain valuable real-world experience. We are also able to make significant investments in faculty development, ensuring that BVU professors stay on the leading edge of teaching and scholarship and enhance our campus facilities, acquire scientific instrumentation, and upgrade our campus technology.”

See Tomorrow points us to the future. The success of this campaign has strengthened this university for the future in real and measurable ways,” said Fred Moore, president of Buena Vista University. “With this campaign, we have begun to create a culture of philanthropy here at BVU that will serve us well far into the future.”

To lead the campaign, nine significant donors, the most in any university campaign to-date, stepped forward to contribute leadership gifts and commitments ranging from $1 to 3.1 million, including:

  • Doug and Joanie Clausen for the Clausen Endowed Chair in Business
  • Jim & Gretchen Haahr for the Haahr International Travel Award Fund
  • Don and Charlene Lamberti for the Lamberti Chair of Professional Ethics
  • The McCorkle Family Trust to create named endowment funds for faculty development and student scholarships
  • Cordell & Sandra Peterson for a new turf field, lights and new track named Peterson Field
  • Foundations established by Dr. Harold Walter Siebens, funded endowments to establish  the Clifford A. Rae Academic Achievement Award in the School of Business and the Clifford A Rae Academic Achievement Award in the School of Science
  • Harry & Molly Stine for the Stine Chair for Undergraduate Research and Engagement
  • Two anonymous gifts, one for a travel fund for choral music ensembles and another undefined program fund

Overall, 5,656 donors participated in the campaign, giving a large number of major and annual gifts of various amounts which enabled the university to surpass its goal.
